Types of Fencing and Which Ones you Should Choose

Fencing is a form of barrier that is typically used around the perimeter of restricted areas, whether that be a private residence, a business premises, or a potentially hazardous area, such as an electrical relay station. There are a wide range options available to you when it comes to the types of fencing available to you, and there are some pretty big differences in terms of the features that these types possess, which may impact the decision that you need to make regarding your choice of fencing. This article will review the types of fencing that are typically available, as well as which ones are more suited to some common situations where fencing may be required.

So one of the biggest determining factors of the type of fencing you need is what you need it for. While this may sound like a straight forward question, there are actually some differences in requirements that fencing suppliers try to meet. While all fencing is designed to give notice to those passing by that behind the fence is not open to the public, fencing can be designed with providing additional benefits to go along with this. For example, palisade fencing made from metal beams are often sharp at the upper end of the fencing, which can help to disincentivise those considering trespassing for some nefarious purpose. You can of course get fencing that completely restricts the view of the internal property as well, which can be an important advantage for those trying to enhance privacy, for a home perhaps.

The first type to bring to your attention is palisade fencing. You will likely have seen this type of fencing around commercial properties or school properties, where thin sheets of metal, often with a pointy tip, are erected along a perimeter line. This is a great type of fencing for clearly demarcating the perimeter line as well as intimidating those considering committing an act of trespass. They are typically made from steel, and are painted to ensure that they have a long lifespan. Their durability is a significant plus, and make it an ideal option for those looking for a permanent feature that will require little upkeep.

The second type to discuss is a wooden fencing. This type of fencing is usually used to line the perimeter of suburban homes, and can be a great source of privacy. The main advantage of this type of fencing besides this feature is the generally very low price, but you sacrifice a fair amount of durability as consequence. The light weight and low durability of wooden fencing sees many fences damaged during stormy weather, but for private residences it is very commonplace.

Lastly, there is mesh fencing that you should consider. This a light weight alternative to other options that is often seen as being the least obtrusive. Mesh fencing often borders areas where privacy isn’t a concern, and it offers numerous advantages over alternatives. Installation is generally easy, and mesh products are typically the most affordable in terms of meters of coverage. Its light weight can allow it to be installed to much higher heights at relatively little extra cost, which means that you will be able to exclude a lot of the opportunists from attempting to bypass it.
