Primrose: A classic which can be bedded in the winter

The Primrose is part of the family Primulaceae, and it’s an incredibly colourful and vivid flower that’s hugely popular in the winter, in terms of bedding. We read recently an experienced British gardener describe this flower as a ‘cottage garden plant’, and that’s exactly right. It has the perfect look for a cute cottage house in the British countryside, whilst modern varieties start producing their rosettes of flowers from mid-winter onwards, and these are some very bold and beautiful colours from yellows, to oranges and reds. For best results, you may want to try bedding this flower in beds, borders or pots to add some much needed vibrancy to your garden on those dull winter days when you’re cooped up inside. At least then you can actually enjoy the view out to your garden on cold days from the cosy living room or conservatory, without having to wait until Sring for some colour.
