Fruit Trees to Grow in Containers

Think your garden is too small for a fruit tree? Dwarf fruit trees are designed specifically for compact container growing, grafted fruit trees can also produce up to 3 different types of apple or pear on 1 stem.

To grow your fruit tree successfully in a container make sure you select a dwarf variety. You’ll need to have a container at least 60cm in diameter with a large heavy bottom. The container needs to restrict the roots to keep the tree compact. You’ll need to keep the soil moist by watering regularly and feeding in the spring using a balanced fertiliser. Freshen the compost by top dressing every year or so and place your tree in the sunniest position.

There are alternative trees that can be grown in the ground, in small vegetable patches and even indoors or in a conservatory so no need to miss out if you want to grow your own fruit.
